"Sherman-Zinn works on view "

The very large and very vibrant works of painter Ellen Sherman-Zinn of Warren will be on display at the Cranford campus of Union County College, starting Friday.

The opening will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and the artist will be available for questions. The show in the Toma­sulo Gallery, MacKay Library, will run through Dec. 16.

Sherman-Zinn's oil and acrylic paintings are mostly 6-by-6 feet. They are abstract expressionist works, influenced by Willem de Kooning, and done with strong colors, vigorous strokes and sharp contrasts.

She received a master's degree in tlne.arts painting from Montclair State University and a bachelor's degree in fine arts from Syracuse University.

Earlier this year, Sherman-Zinn was named one of the state's 15 most accomplished women by New Jersey Women magazine.

Her work has been exhibited in the Warner Lambert Invitational in Morris Plains, the Hadassah 36th annual Show Invitational, the CM Midlantic Open Juried Show in Ridgewood, the Art New Jersey Juried Show and Painting New Jersey Juried Show at William Patterson College in Wayne, the Gallery Group Show at Everhart Gallery in Basking Ridge, and the small works show at the A.J. Leder­man Fine Art Gallery in Hoboken.

Her works also appear in the permanent collections of Raritan Bay Medical Center, Syracuse University, and American Express in Boston.

The college gallery hours are from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
